The Malaika (Arabic/Swahili for ‘angel’) integration project consists of around 40 people from a wide range of nations, generations and religions. They perform theatre together once a week in Zurich and develop a new play every year. Highlights include performances at the Bernhardtheater, the Zürcher Theaterspektakel and the Millers Theater.

The project was founded by Nicole Stehli in 2014 in Zurich.

The Malaika Refugee Theatre embarks on its next adventure. Our current play, ‘Stories in Their Luggage – Malaikas at the Train Station,’ takes the audience to the starting point of the unknown, the arrival point of the new, the gathering place of diversity. The “Schrägen Vögel” or "the weird birds” are people in difficult life situations who have not lost their sense of humour and are passionate about theatre. They rehearse once a week and develop a new play every year.

The project was founded by Nicole Stehli in 2009.
